Akita Information (copyright www.DogTraining-AtoZ.com)

The Akita is a breed of a large dog that originates from Japan. Males are from 85 to 150 pounds and females are 70 to 100 pounds.

DNA anaylsis confirms that the Akita is one of the most primitive dog breeds. (ie the fewest genetic differences from wolves.) This classification is also sometimes referred to as being an "Ancient Dog." There are only 13 other breeds other than the Akita that have this classification.
