Stop Dog Barking

The most annoying thing a dog can do is to continuously bark without any way to make them stop.

To make your dog stop barking you need to first try to find out why he or she is barking in the first place. There are different types of barking from territorial barking to alarm barking to aggressive darking. Then you need to get a good dog training guide to help you stop your dog from barking.

I do not recommend paying a professional dog trainer. They almost always overcharge for their services. It's better to learn how your dog thinks and train him yourself. The best way to do that is with a top notch dog training program. If your main problem is your dog's barking - then you want to make sure you get a dog training program that has a focus on dog barking.

Free Puppy Training Tips

Check out these free puppy training tips from your friends here at Dog Training A to Z!

Remember that we recommend Sit Stay Fetch for all dog and puppy training! It's an incredibly thorough guide that will expertly lead you through every step of training your dog well!

It's great that you are here and you want to start training your puppy! There used to be some misinformation around that you should wait till your dog is older to start training them, nothing could be farther from the truth! You should start training your puppy as soon as possible! Some dogs like the American Eskimo for example do not learn very well as adults if they haven't been trained as puppies. So you don't want to wait around!

Free Puppy Training Tip #1

As soon as you first get your new puppy make sure that they learn that coming to you when you want them to come is a great thing. You have to be enthusiastic with your rewards! Make sure your puppy knows that coming to you when called is a great thing that he enjoys doing.

Free Puppy Training Tip #2

Puppies will naturally be jumping up on you a lot. The key to stopping this behavior is not through negative training (we don't believe in negative training of any type) but just by ignoring your puppy when he is jumping on you. You never give him reward when he jumps on you. You ignore him and act like he doesn't exist. Soon he will come to realize that jumping on you is a really bad idea! As soon as he's back down on the ground and no longer jumping on you then you give him a great pat on the head and much encouragement.

Free Puppy Training Tip #3

Make sure your puppy associates it's name with happy and fun things. Let's say your puppy's name is Spot. You should always say things like "Spot, it's dinner time!" and "Spot, it's time to play in the park!" but when you not happy with your dog it's best to not even use their name at all. Let's say Spot just peed on your new rug for example! Don't use his name at all. Speaking of peeing on the rug - Sit Stay Fetch also has a thorough house training section.

Good luck with these tips and know that you are on the right track by starting early with your dog!

Electronic Dog Collars

I think we made clear our point on these earlier with our post on Anti Bark Collars but just be clear we do not support Electronic Dog Collars. We don't think negative training through electric shocks is the right way to train your dog either morally or if you are looking for the best results. I don't understand how anyone could want to shock their dog. Is your dog your friend? Would you shock your friend? I just don't understand it.

In my opinion electronic dog collars should be illegal.

Instead of this barbaric method why don't you train your dog using recommended positive reinforcements? Your dog will learn much better through positive training and instead of fearing you, he will love you.

Dog Training Tips

Here's some free dog training tips courtesy your friends at Dog Training A to Z!

1. The ideal time to start training your dog is between 6 and 8 weeks of age.

2. Use a friendly voice when giving commands such as "heel"

3. Patience. Patience is probably the most important part of training any dog. It's easy to become frustrated or give up when your dog doesn't learn as fast as you would like.

4. Always play with your dog after you are done training. This will help him to associate training time with fun time and he'll look forward to training with you again.

5. Training works best when you train your dog with no distractions (such as other pets.)

6. Always be positive! We are firm believers in positive dog training. Positive reinforcements are a necessary part of properly training your dog. You should give your dog much praise when he or she completes a task properly! Doggy treats are great too but don't overdo it with those or your dog will over eat which is obviously not good for him!

Anti Bark Dog Collars

To put it simply I am anti Anti-Bark Dog Collars.

I do not believe in this type of "training." Dogs should not be shocked into learning they should learn through positive reinforcement. Using this type of method is not fair to your dog and is not a good long term solution to your dog's barking behaviors.

Instead you should learn how to train your own dog through the most advanced dog training methods:

Dog Trainer

More and more people are turning away from the old traditional methods of hiring a professional dog trainer and instead becoming their own dog trainers by taking online dog training courses that offer the most advanced dog training information.

Unfortunately many professional dog trainers and dog obedience schools use outdated methods that don't work as well as newer more advanced positive training methods.

Another reason why many people are turning away from hiring a dog trainer and just learning dog training methods on their own is that dogs often will learn to behave only where they are trained and only around those that train them. This is a problem if you a hire a pro dog trainer and he only trains your dog in one place. This is a very common problem. Your dog learns to behave only in one area and only around the dog trainer. This doesn't help you much in the long run.

The other obvious reason for turning away from hiring a pro dog trainer and instead taking an online dog training course is that pro dog trainers can be very expensive. In fact you would probably pay more for a single session with a pro dog trainer than you would pay for an entire dog training course online.
