Training A New Dog: Create A Dog Area And Buy Dog Chewing Toys

Training a new dog can be a very challenging process. It isn’t just a case of teaching simple commands such as down; it requires love, time and dedication.

A great way to start is by house training. Don’t leave your dog to roam unsupervised, especially if you’re not at home. Create a den or living area for the dog, preferably covered with newspaper so that it can’t do any damage. This can contain their bed, a few toys, and a food and water bowl. Although this setting of boundaries is important, remember not to keep your dog confined all day; give them sufficient playtime and exercise outdoors.

New dogs often chew things (this natural process helps keep their teeth and gums healthy), so it’s a good idea to buy a toy for this purpose. If the dog starts chewing your possessions, it’s important to give a firm “no” command and make the dog sit down. You can then give them their chew toy to divert their attention away from your household objects.
