Afghan Hounds

The Afghan Hound dog breed comes from the mountains of Afghanistan. They are a very glamorous breed but they are also a great hunting dog.

Afghans first arrived in Britain in the early 1900s and in America in 1926.

They are a large dignified dog that gives the impression of great power and speed. The males are 27 to 29 inches tall and 60 pounds and the females are 25 to 27 inches tall 50 pounds.

Afghan Hounds are intelligent dogs that can appear to be reserved and aloof. But they do like to play sometimes as well.
