Dog Agility
Dogs are quite naturally very agile creatures. Some are trained to become even more agile than normal.
You may have seen dog agility competitions on television where dogs compete by seeing which dog can run through tunnels and jump over objects while weaving around poles.
These can be quite fun to watch in my opinion.
Do you want your dog to take part in dog agility competitions? Well this is a special type of dog training that usually isn't covered very much in dog training guides.
Any healthy fit dog can compete in a dog agility competition. Dogs with disabilities and overweight dogs are generally barred from competition due to health factors.
There is usually no age limit for dogs that compete. Puppies are encouraged to compete as well as adult dogs.
It's important when you are attending a dog agility contest that you are wearing comfortable clothes and shoes that you can run in. Your dog should have a leather or webbed buckle collar and you should be using a long lead made of rope, nylon, or leather - do not use chain leads because they can get caught in the jumps.
Dog agility is a lot of fun. You and your dog will both have fun training and competing in dog agility contests. And it should help keep you both fit & in shape!
